"Sew Saturday" at Calico Kate
A date for your diary: Saturday 21st October,
and here is why:
Sew Saturday is the official launch of "Joy in a Box", my appeal in aid of the Romanian Aid Foundation.
Look in your stash — fabric or yarn — or just simply fill a shoe box with gifts to make a child smile. Please join me in by making a teddy jumper (email me or visit Calico Kate for a free pattern) and/or make a small quilt to keep teddy cozy in a shoebox.
I have 70 Teddies … Now all I need is you!
If you live far away, have enjoyed visiting Calico Kate and perhaps having purchased fabric from us, and now have a glorious quilt, share the joy and make Teddy a quilt. This can be posted to me, or come and visit on Sew Saturday and bring your teddy quilt and put the jumper on teddy! All the teddies will have a mini stockings made by you or me (with a little gift inside) If you can make one, please do — less work for me!
On the ROAF website are some suggestions of what else can be included in a shoebox (if you don't have time to make). Follow the links to 'Joy in a Box'
For this project, wherever possible, I need you to provide the shoebox, and to cover it with Christmas paper — covering the box and lid separately. I shall have some spare — but not 70!!!
There are no prizes, just a smile on a child's face when they open the box.
Two trucks will be leaving for Romania: one at the end of October (hence bringing the launch forward to the 1st October) and another in November. I would love as many boxes as possible to go with my contact Richard Burgess who will be driving the first truck, and who is my inspiration for this project.
If you are not able to visit or make something there is a donation box in Calico Kate, as the gifts are just a small part of the aid that will be travelling to Romania — the return journey is over 3000 miles, so much fuel is consumed by the trucks.
Run out of time to make? Perhaps you would like to add a few gifts to go in the box with the Teddy, Quilt and stocking?
Suggestions include: toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush, comb, hair slides, sweets, chocolates, skipping rope, ball, skittles, pencils — in fact anything you, your children or grandchildren would have loved to receive.
Also, I still need shoeboxes and wrapping paper — as all the boxes need to be wrapped!
* Joy in the Box, come and visit on Sew Saturday and show us what you have made, or learn more about what you can do. I have customers who have already been knitting and making mini quilts for Teddies, and there are examples for you to see. If you can't sew or knit, just come along and be inspired to start!
* Plus amazing offers on Janome Sewing Machines
So come along on Saturday 21st October and find out what we have been up to!
(Further information about other events will be on my website closer to Sew Saturday)
